MAKE UP TIPS FOR HOLIDAY PARTIES

Every woman has the potential to make or break their reputation during a holiday party. Soiree after soiree you have the opportunity to leave an enduring impression with co-workers, family and friends far beyond the New Year. Here are 6 make-up tips to ensure you look and feel your best!

TIP#1: GO GLAM!

There are few occasions where you’ll have an excuse to unabashedly look gorgeous at work without explanation. This is the time to look the best they’ve seen you all year.

Quickly dismiss any temptation to imitate the smoky-eye, nude lip visage resurrected in popularity by Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan -- wear red! This season appropriate lip color speaks passion, confidence, elegance and joy all at once. Go for a classic vintage look and you will never regret your holiday photos.

Ultra long lashes are a necessity when exchanging up close and personal conversation in the dark. Think Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy Dandridge, Rita Hayworth, (you get the idea). Start with a thick line of liquid eyeliner drawn with a brush or felt tip. Condition and coat your lashes with primer and follow up with an industry favorite: Shu Uemura’s Ultimate Expressions mascara in black. Emerge a diamond in the rough with Giorgio Armani’s sparkly gold top coat from the 2009 Crystal Collection.

Tip #2: WATCH YOUR MOUTH

If you’re a suburbanite with southern roots like me and can’t resist the Rondele and lox, pack a toothbrush and pocket-sized mouthwash to make sure your beauty is not tainted by foul breath. And don’t forget to bring your lipstick- it’s the quickest way to refresh your look. It is also the most likely to need frequent reapplication after singing, dancing and dining. Fill in your lips with liner and foundation before you leave home and top with a matte lipstick. Revlon’s ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor is reliable brand but can be a bit drying so add a dab of gloss.

Tip #3: NEVER ASSUME YOUR MAKE-UP IS OKAY.

Don’t bother asking a likely inebriated co-worker, “Does my make-up look okay?” She can’t possibly know the shade of blush you perfected in your bedroom the night before and likely doesn’t care. Scout out the bathroom like a CIA agent the moment you arrive and visit it often for tooth interrogation.

Tip #4: KEEP YOUR NOSE CLEAN

Unexpected boogies can make guest appearances at the most inappropriate times. There is no sicker feeling than the moment after avoidable humiliation. Use your compact as a deterrent.

TIP #5: PACK YOUR HOLIDAY PARTY BEAUTY ARSENAL

Don’t leave home without a brush, a compact mirror, oil absorption papers (it’s reported that Sarah Jessica Parker uses the toilet seat covers to do the job) and a pair of cute flats.

Follow these tips and you’re sure to remain the belle of the ball long after the clock strikes midnight.
